TurkNet, one of the internet service providers used by hundreds of thousands in Turkey, announced that it had detected a cyber attack against the institution. The statement revealed that some customers’ identity information, including names, phone numbers, and Turkish ID numbers, had been compromised, but financial data and user passwords were stated to be secure. On March 11, an attack was launched on TurkNet’s database. TurkNet’s statement indicated that some customers’ identity information had been accessed in the cyber attack.

It was noted that the attack did not involve customers’ financial information or TurkNet user passwords. DATABASE ATTACK In the statement, it was recorded that despite the measures taken within the scope of the Personal Data Protection Law (KVKK), a cyber attack had been carried out on the institution’s database, with the following statements: “At this time, the necessary technical and administrative measures have been increased, and security has been ensured. Following the incident, there has been no interruption or problem in our service. In our database that was subject to the breach, there is information including some customers’ name, surname, phone number, subscription number, Turkish ID number, identity details, TurkNet subscription circuit information, address, and static IP information.” “CURRENT PASSWORDS CAN BE SAFELY USED” The statement emphasized that the attack did not encompass customers’ financial information or TurkNet user passwords, and that this information was securely protected. The statement mentioned that efforts to identify the perpetrators of these acts and initiate necessary legal processes would be carried out in coordination with relevant public institutions, stating, “The Personal Data Protection Authority and the Information Technologies and Communications Authority have been informed of the breach. As of now, all additional measures have been strictly implemented, and you can safely use our Online Transaction Center and mobile application with your current password. We will continue to keep you informed of any developments related to the process.”
