Hazelnut Harvest Begins in the Black Sea Region

The hazelnut harvest has begun in the Black Sea region. Producers in Trabzon, Ordu, and Giresun are cleaning wild weeds and battling insects in their orchards. Hazelnut producers in Trabzon, Ordu, and Giresun have started preparing for the 2025 harvest season. Wanting to increase productivity and quality, producers are working towards having a successful season as hazelnut branches begin to sprout. Producers are cleaning wild weeds in their orchards and will also combat pests like cone mites and brown stink bugs. Eyyüp Ergan, the Chairman of the Trabzon Commodity Exchange Board of Directors, mentioned that hazelnuts are an important product for the country and the region’s economy. Ergan stated that there are tasks to be done throughout the year for hazelnuts according to the months, referred to as the “hazelnut farming calendar.” Ergan noted that producers are currently clearing wild weeds in their orchards and added, “After this, there will be work related to battling hazelnut pests and fertilizing. We are advising both producers and our members on what needs to be done.”
