Car enthusiast Mehmet Nail (60), living in Bursa, inspired by the vehicle graveyard he saw in the city of Atlanta in the state of Georgia, USA, converted the ground floor of his 4-story house into a car graveyard. The vehicle graveyard contains the front of 2 cars and a car, the back of 1 car, as well as seats, steering wheels, and spare parts of various vehicles. Mehmet Nail, born in 1965 in Köprühisar district of Yenişehir, started collecting nostalgic items from a young age. Nail, who started collecting telephones, cassette players, video cassettes, and instruments from family elders and close circles in a room of his house, continued his collection hobby while studying in the USA at the age of 19. Mehmet Nail, a father of two who returned definitively from New York where he lived for 30 years in 2014, started living in his 4-story house in Osmangazi district with thousands of items including seats, car accessories, household items, and classic cars. Adding nostalgic items brought from America to his collection, Nail’s ‘nostalgia house’ includes not only mementos from his family but also 12 classic cars produced between 1915 and 1965. Inspired by the vehicle graveyard he saw in the city of Atlanta, Georgia, Nail converted the ground floor of his 4-story house into a car graveyard. Mehmet Nail, who brought 2 scrapped cars and some antique models’ front and rear bodies from Köprühisar district in Yenişehir where he was born to his home. In the vehicle graveyard, besides the front of 2 cars and a car, various vehicle seats, steering wheels, and spare parts can be found. At the entrance of the section that attracts attention, there are a large number of car headlights and taillights on the wooden door. Mehmet Nail, who said he was very impressed by the vehicle graveyard he visited during his trip to America and due to his extreme passion for cars since his childhood, adapted it to his home. Nail said, “I have had an extreme passion and love for cars since my childhood. I visited many car graveyards in America. The vehicle graveyard I saw in Atlanta impressed me a lot. I thought about how I could do it and brought 2 cars which I used as spare parts for antique vehicles I own in the village here. I created a similar one on the ground floor of my house. When I am tired or bored, I come here. I also show my vehicle graveyard to those who are curious. Everyone who sees this place is very surprised.”
