Heavy Fine of 37 Million Lira for Overpriced Bus Tickets

During the holiday, companies selling overpriced bus tickets and engaging in pirate transportation were fined a total of 37.4 million lira. In this period, a total of 63,113 bus trips were inspected. Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu made a statement regarding measures and inspections for intercity buses during the Ramazan Bayram holiday period. Minister Uraloğlu noted that inspections to prevent overpriced ticket sales on intercity buses during the Ramazan Bayram holiday were carried out continuously, with operators not complying with reported fare tariffs being individually examined and subject to necessary administrative fines. Monitoring was conducted for 63,113 bus trips by Transport and Infrastructure Ministry teams and law enforcement in collaboration. Minister Uraloğlu emphasized their efforts by saying, “Prior to and during the holiday, in addition to electronic inspections made via the U-ETDS system for intercity bus travel, inspections were conducted at passenger terminals, roadside locations, and highway inspection stations focusing on overpriced ticket sales, pirate transport, and unauthorized carriers, covering 2,377 operators and 63,113 bus trips.” Minister Uraloğlu highlighted the high intensity of intercity bus travel during the Ramazan Bayram holiday, stating, “Between March 10 and April 6, 8,347 fines totaling 37,400,120 lira were imposed on bus operators.” Minister Uraloğlu also mentioned that the inspections were not limited to the holiday period alone, stating, “To prevent overpriced ticket sales and ensure order in passenger transportation, nationwide bus inspections are effectively continuing.”
