Heavy Punishment for Drunk Passenger Forcing Unscheduled Landing of Aircraft

A passenger who forced a plane traveling from England to Egypt to make an unscheduled landing in Athens will face a fine of 15,000 pounds. The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon, two hours after Wizz Air’s flight took off from Gatwick to the Red Sea resort of Hurghada. Eyewitnesses reported that a woman, who had been drinking throughout most of the flight and had changed seats with another passenger, later displayed aggressive behavior and cursed at the flight crew when asked to calm down. Subsequently, the pilot decided to divert the aircraft in the middle of the five-hour flight and landed the A321 in Athens, Greece.
Video footage obtained by MailOnline shows three police officers escorting the passenger off the plane while other vacationers applauded and cheered. Wizz Air is now attempting to recover additional costs incurred due to fuel, personnel hours, hotel expenses, and disruptions in the schedule through legal means.
