Hurma prices increased by 30%: Here are the prices on the counters

With Ramadan just around the corner, the marketplaces are buzzing. Preparations are also underway in Eminönü, where shopping can be done more affordably in Istanbul. Just like every year, the demand for dates is high this year as well. So, how are the prices looking? Is there an increase compared to last year?

Reported by: Beyzanur Özer Dates, one of Ramadan’s essentials, have taken their place on the counters.

In Istanbul’s Eminönü, prices vary from shop to shop, with a 30% increase compared to last year.

The type and size of dates are determining factors in prices; starting at 140 Turkish Liras per kilogram, they can go up to 650 Turkish Liras. Depending on the type and size of the dates, there are price differences ranging from 70-80 Turkish Liras. The price of Jerusalem dates is higher compared to other varieties. Some shops also offer discounts for the Ramadan period. Shopkeepers mentioning discounts of 30-40 Turkish Liras on products anticipate an increase in activity towards the end of the month. Ramadan will start on Saturday, March 1, 2025.
