Illegal gold mine collapsed in Mali: 50 people died

A collapse occurred in an illegal gold mine in western Mali. In the incident, 50 people lost their lives.
On Saturday, a collapse took place in an illegal gold mine operated in the Kenieba district, part of the Kayes region of Mali in West Africa.
Officials announced that after the conclusion of search and rescue operations, 50 people, including 49 women, had lost their lives. Mali’s Prime Minister Abdoulaye Maiga stated that the government would take “decisive” measures following the mining disaster.
Authorities in Mali, one of Africa’s largest gold producers, struggle to regulate illegal mining activities. Miners often work under dangerous conditions, leading to frequent and often deadly mining accidents.
On January 29th, a collapse in a gold mine in the Kangaba district of the Koulikoro region resulted in the loss of 13 lives.
