Inauguration of the Iğdır-Nakhchivan Pipeline With the Participation of Presidents Erdogan and Aliyev

The opening of the Iğdır-Nakhchivan Pipeline was carried out with a ceremony attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. This pipeline, a result of the energy partnership between Turkey and Azerbaijan, witnessed its inauguration with the presence of the two presidents. The first gas was pumped into the pipeline after the ceremony.

During his speech at the event, President Erdogan congratulated the blessed Ramadan of the Azerbaijani people and emphasized the important developments in the principles of brotherhood. He highlighted the achievements in the energy sector with various projects, presenting the partnership as a significant step in delivering Azerbaijani gas to Europe through projects like TANAP.

The completion of the Iğdır-Nakhchivan Pipeline adds a new route to Turkey’s natural gas exports. The capacity of the pipeline, which can deliver up to 5 million cubic meters per day or 1.8 billion cubic meters annually, will now meet Nakhchivan’s gas needs. President Aliyev emphasized how such projects not only unite countries but also reshape the energy landscape of Eurasia. He acknowledged the pivotal role of President Erdogan in uniting the Turkic world, as evidenced by the strong relationship between Turkey and Azerbaijan.

Aliyev recalled laying the foundation of the pipeline with Erdogan 1.5 years ago, highlighting the historical significance of the new energy link between the two countries. He addressed the challenges faced by Nakhchivan over a century due to geopolitical separations and emphasized the importance of ongoing support and collaboration for the region’s development.
