Investigation of “Katargate” in Israel: Netanyahu Testifies

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has given testimony as part of the “Katargate” investigation. It was reported that Netanyahu was not a suspect, but was called to testify as a witness. Two advisors of the Israeli Prime Minister were also detained.
In the investigation known as the “Katargate Scandal” within the Israeli public, two individuals were arrested.
The Israeli media announced that the detained individuals were Yonatan Urich and Eli Feldstein, advisors to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Netanyahu’s party Likud confirmed that one of them was the chief advisor. The Israeli Prime Minister also testified as part of the investigation following the detentions.
NETANYAHU TESTIFIES AS A WITNESS Netanyahu was in court for a corruption case he was being tried in. He left the court to give testimony regarding the “Katargate” investigation.
The Israeli media reported that the Prime Minister was not a suspect, but was testifying as a witness. Netanyahu’s testimony was taken at the Prime Ministry.
DESCRIBED AS A “WITCH HUNT”
The Israeli Prime Minister described the investigation as a “witch hunt.” He also used the term “hostage taking” regarding the arrest of his two advisors.
According to the Israeli media, a newspaper working for the country’s leading broadcasting institution was also called to give testimony.
PREVIOUSLY INVOLVED IN A SECRET DOCUMENT SCANDAL
One of the detained advisors, Eli Feldstein, was arrested last year on charges of leaking confidential documents and put under house arrest. Feldstein is accused of leaking secret information related to hostage negotiations in Gaza.
DISMISSAL OF SHIN BET DIRECTOR The “Katargate” investigation is being conducted by the Israeli domestic intelligence service Shin Bet. Netanyahu removed Shin Bet’s head, Ronen Bar, two weeks ago.
The government unanimously supported Netanyahu’s decision, but the Supreme Court halted the execution.
Bar is still in office. The Court will review Bar’s appeal on April 8.
However, Netanyahu did not wait for the Court’s decision and appointed a new Shin Bet head. The Israeli Prime Minister nominated former Commander of the Navy Eli Sharvit to head the domestic intelligence.
ACCUSED OF RECEIVING MONEY FROM QATAR
According to the Israeli press, Netanyahu’s advisors are accused of receiving money from Qatar.
Shin Bet President Ronen Bar claims that the investigation will shed light on the events that led to Hamas’ attack on October 7.
Netanyahu alleges that he was removed from office to obstruct the investigation.
