Iran confirms: Second round of US-Iran talks to be held in Rome

Iran has announced that the second round of indirect negotiations with the United States, previously announced to take place in Oman on April 19, will be held in Rome, the capital of Italy. According to Iranian state television, the second round of talks with the US will take place in Rome. It was reported that Oman will continue to mediate the talks, just as in the first round.
NEGOTIATION PROCESS BETWEEN IRAN AND THE US
After unilaterally withdrawing from the nuclear agreement with Iran in 2018, President Donald Trump, who called for direct nuclear negotiations with Iran, sent a letter to Iran’s leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei last month. Iran responded to the letter through Oman. Iran and the US held indirect talks in Oman on April 12 following the letter exchange. Both Iran and the US announced that the negotiations were “positive and constructive”. The parties had announced that they would reconvene on April 19. The US media had reported that the second round of talks would take place in Rome, the capital of Italy, but Iran announced after consultations that the talks would again be held in Oman.
US Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff, speaking on Fox News two days ago, said that Iran had agreed to enrich uranium to 3.67%, as stipulated in the previous nuclear agreement. However, Witkoff later stated that Iran needed to stop uranium enrichment. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi expressed readiness to address concerns about the country’s nuclear program, but reiterated that Iran would not negotiate its right to enrich uranium.
