Israel and Hamas Renew Agreement for Prisoner Exchange in Cairo

A new development has emerged regarding the ceasefire in Gaza Strip and the agreement for a prisoner and detainee swap. Hamas announced that they have reached a resolution in Cairo, Egypt, concerning the release of Palestinian prisoners delayed by Israel in the last round. In the seventh round of the prisoner exchange deal, Hamas released 6 Israeli prisoners. However, the promised release of 602 Palestinian prisoners by Israel in the seventh round did not happen.
As Israel insisted on certain conditions for the exchange, the Israeli army later announced that the release of the 602 Palestinian prisoners was postponed until the full handover of all prisoners and a guarantee for a ceremony-free process. Hamas responded to this by stating that Israel’s justification for the delay, claiming that the handover ceremony was demeaning, was a weak excuse put forward to avoid the agreement. Hamas accused Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu of deliberately obstructing the agreement. It was declared that the parties had reached an agreement in Cairo for the final round of the exchange.
Additionally, Israeli warplanes targeted the south of Syria, with sounds of aircraft and explosions heard in the capital, Damascus. Syrian State Television reported that Israeli warplanes conducted low-altitude flights in the south of Syria, targeting Kuneytire and Dera near the Golan Heights. Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz confirmed the attack, stating, “We will not allow the south of Lebanon to turn into the south of Syria.”
