Israel Confirmed Targeting Journalists’ Tent

The Israeli military has admitted to launching an attack on a tent where journalists were staying in the city of Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip. Palestinian journalist Hilmi al-Fakavi lost his life in the airstrike. A total of 10 people, including 9 journalists, were injured in the same attack. In a written statement from the military, it was stated, “The army, along with the internal intelligence agency Shin Bet, targeted Hasan Abdulfettah Muhammed Islih in Khan Yunis, who is affiliated with Hamas and was working under the guise of a journalist at a media company.” The statement alleged that the attack was carried out with the aim of targeting Islih, who is a member of Hamas’ Khan Yunis Brigade. Islih, one of the 9 journalists injured in the attack, has not yet made a statement concerning Israel’s claims. Israeli warplanes bombed a tent where journalists were staying near Nasir Hospital in Khan Yunis, causing a fire in the tent. The initial reports indicated that one journalist was killed and 10 people, including 9 journalists, were injured in the attack. The Israeli military continues to frequently target press members with attacks in Gaza, despite their immunity according to international agreements. The number of journalists killed since October 7, 2023, has risen to 210 due to the death of one journalist in the attack on the tent where journalists were staying.
