Israel sets new condition for ceasefire: “Release half of the prisoners”

Israeli media reported that Israel has proposed a new ceasefire offer in exchange for a 50-day ceasefire. Allegedly, this proposal includes the release of half of the prisoners in the Gaza Strip.
According to the news broadcast on Israel’s Channel 13 television, it was conveyed that Tel Aviv administration aims to maximize the number of released living Israeli prisoners. The news mentioned that Israel’s security cabinet held a lengthy discussion after receiving a new ceasefire proposal from mediators on March 29. The proposal reportedly requested the release of half of all Israeli prisoners, both alive and deceased, in Gaza in exchange for a 50-day ceasefire. The news also indicated that among the prisoners expected to be released in this proposal, including 5 prisoners, one of whom is the US-Israeli citizen Edan Alexander. Due to the uncertainty about how many of the prisoners to be released are alive, Israel allegedly rejected the offer. Subsequently, Israel was reported to have made a new proposal, demanding the release of half of the prisoners in Gaza in exchange for a 50-day ceasefire.
WILL ATTACKS ON GAZA CEASE? An article in Israel Hayom newspaper, based on a security official, suggested that if Hamas accepts the offer from US President Donald Trump’s Middle East Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, Israel would consider halting attacks on the Gaza Strip. Witkoff purportedly proposed implementing a 50-day ceasefire in exchange for the release of 10 Israeli prisoners in Gaza, releasing Palestinian prisoners from Israeli prisons, allowing humanitarian aid into Gaza, and initiating second-stage negotiations.
ISRAEL HAD ANNOUNCED THE NEW OFFER On the evening of March 29, the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office stated that Israel had made a counteroffer to the proposal made by mediator countries for a ceasefire and mutual prisoner exchange in Gaza. The Israeli media had reported that Hamas had agreed to release 5 Israeli prisoners in exchange for the renewal of a ceasefire and the resumption of negotiations for a long-term ceasefire in Gaza facilitated by Egypt.
