ARMY SPOKESPERSON REVEALED AS GANG LEADER
One of Israel’s largest news sites, The Times of Israel, revealed to their readers that Shalicar, who started serving as the spokesperson for the army in Turkish, was a former gang member, with the headline “Former gangster speaking on behalf of the Israeli army.” In an article from 2013, The Times of Israel mentioned Shalicar’s youth in Germany, stating, “I got involved in crime, joined the gang life. All kinds of things. Mostly what gangs do. People can understand if you write these.” The article noted that Shalicar founded a gang called “Berlin Crime” and secretly educated himself from his gang friends due to the lack of education being appreciated in his environment. An article from the Berlin-based Tagesspiegel portrayed Shalicar as someone who rose to the leadership of a criminal underworld in Berlin, stabbed a person in his gang, and engaged in drug trafficking. When he was 17, Shalicar was said to never leave the house without a gun, a knife, and a knuckle duster. It was also mentioned that Shalicar talks about Israel, refers to the promised lands, and describes himself as “totally Zionist” when speaking about Israel.
