Israeli Media Reports: Israel Must Get Used to Turkey’s Influence in Syria

Israeli media published an analysis regarding Turkey’s influence in Syria, stating that “Israel has very little room to maneuver beyond insisting on red lines.”
Israeli media released an assessment of Turkey’s influence in Syria.
The article in the Times of Israel used the headline “Israel Must Get Used to Turkey’s Growing Footprint in Syria.”
The analysis noted the need for a strong country to help bring Syria out of chaos post the fall of the ousted leader Bashar al-Assad, mentioning that “Turkey also wants to be part of this; while America supports Erdogan, Israel has very few options beyond insisting on red lines.”
The article highlighted that after Israel’s airstrikes targeting three Syrian airbases in early April, Turkish-Israeli relations reached a turning point, with Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stating, “Turkey has no intention of fighting any country on Syrian soil.”
Although the article mentioned Israel’s increasing concerns about Turkey’s influence in Syria, it also noted the limited options Israel has to counteract this influence.
“TRUMP’S SUPPORT LIMITS ISRAEL’S OPTIONS”
Gallia Lindenstrauss, a senior research fellow at the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS), provided her insights in the analysis, stating, “Ultimately, when it comes to Syria, Turkey values and invests more in it than Israel does. Israel’s interest in Syria is purely security-focused, giving Ankara the upper hand.”
Lindenstrauss added that the support given by US President Donald Trump to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan further limits Israel’s maneuvering capabilities.
