It is Expected that Wheat Flour Exports will Exceed 3 Million Tons this Year

Eren Günhan Ulusoy, the President of the International Association of Wheat Flour Millers and Grain Traders (IAOM) Eurasia, stated that they aim to export more than 3 million tons of flour this year, saying, “We will maintain our world championship title in global flour exports.” In a written statement on World Flour Day, Ulusoy emphasized the critical role of the industry in feeding the world’s population and highlighted flour as one of the most essential staple foods. Pointing out that the flour sector has been the world export champion in its field for 10 years, Ulusoy noted, “With an annual wheat processing capacity of 32 million tons in the flour sector, there are 508 flour factories in 69 provinces. We anticipate that the sector’s capacity utilization rate will remain around 50% by 2025, meaning that approximately 50% of the production capacity will be idle.” Despite restrictions on wheat imports and increases in logistic costs, Ulusoy stated that they closed out 2024 with more than 3 million tons of flour exports and expressed confidence in exceeding the 3 million ton mark this year to maintain their world championship title in global flour exports. Eren Günhan Ulusoy also reported that due to restrictions on wheat imports in the first two months of the year, there was a drop in flour exports compared to the same period in 2024. He highlighted that during the January-February period, the export of grains, pulses, and oilseeds to Palestine increased by 290% to reach $107 million, making it the second-highest exporting sector to Palestine. The most significant item in the grains, pulses, and oilseeds category is the flour sector, with 36 thousand tons of flour exported to Palestine last year. In the first two months of this year, flour exports to Palestine tripled to 11 thousand tons, amounting to $4.6 million, showcasing the commitment of flour millers to continue meeting the needs of Palestine.
