Knife Attack in Amsterdam: 5 Injured, 3 in Critical Condition | Dam Square Closed
At least five people were injured in a knife attack near the famous Dam Square in Amsterdam.
It was reported that three of the wounded individuals in Sint Nicolaasstraat are in critical condition.
A statement from Amsterdam Police’s X account mentioned that a stabbing incident occurred where the wounded were located in Sint Nicolaasstraat near Dam Square. The area has been closed off.
One suspect was detained at the scene, and the motive behind the attack that took place around 15:20 local time is still unknown.
Reports indicated that one of the injured individuals was the suspect who was apprehended.
A CIVILIAN STOPPED THE ASSAILANT The statement mentioned, “This means there were 4 victims in the stabbing incident. The suspect was subdued with the help of a civilian. The suspect was taken to the hospital with an injury to his leg.”
Despite the chaos, a nearby resident managed to keep the attacker under control until the police arrived. Footage shared on social media showed the apprehended individual was a middle-aged man. According to accounts from eyewitnesses in the Dutch media, it was reported that among the victims were women, and the suspect stabbed them from behind before fleeing.
