A female Israeli tourist and an Indian tour guide were sexually assaulted by a group of men near a famous UNESCO World Heritage site in southern India.

THREE MEN ATTACK TOURIST GROUP A male Indian tourist from the same group was thrown into the Tungabhadra Canal and killed while trying to rescue the assaulted women. According to the Associated Press, three men on motorcycles approached the tourist group to ask for money.

MALE TOURISTS PUSHED INTO WATER CANAL Following an argument, the three men pushed the male tourists into the water canal and sexually assaulted the women. One of the Indian tourists pushed into the canal drowned. Two of the suspects involved in the attack have been arrested, while the investigation is ongoing.

SEXUAL VIOLENCE IN INDIA Sexual violence against women in India sparked protests last year after a doctor in Kolkata was raped and murdered. The attack led to mass protests and caused doctors across the country to go on strike.
