Massive 7.7 Earthquake Strikes Myanmar! Skyscrapers Collapsed, Roads Cracked, “Thousands Could Be Dead in the Rubble”

Two earthquakes of magnitudes 7.7 and 6.4 struck the center of Myanmar, resulting in at least 144 deaths. Images shared on social media revealed the intensity of the earthquake. Panic ensued in China and Thailand as tremors were felt, causing people to pour into the streets. The U.S. Geological Survey mentioned the likelihood of thousands of casualties. The military regime declared a state of emergency in many regions and called for blood donations. In Myanmar, two major earthquakes of 7.7 and 6.4 magnitudes occurred.
The earthquake was felt in Bangladesh, India, Laos, Thailand, Myanmar, and China.
After a mosque partially collapsed in Myanmar’s earthquake, at least three people were reported dead, bringing the total death toll in the country to at least 15.
In Thailand, one person was reported dead due to the collapse of a under-construction building.
At least 144 people died and 732 were injured in the two earthquakes in Myanmar.

Myanmar officials stated, “Approximately 12 minutes after the first earthquake, a relatively strong earthquake of 6.4 magnitude occurred about 18 kilometers south of Sagaing. Aftershocks may continue, so be cautious.”

According to local sources, a bridge connecting Myanmar’s Ava and Sagaing regions over the Irrawaddy River collapsed.

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) announced difficulties in access to certain areas due to power and network outages.Myanmar’s Taungoo town in the Bago region reported a mosque had collapsed.
One person told Reuters, “We were praying when the tremor started. Three people died at the scene.”
Considering the magnitude of the earthquake, the U.S. Geological Survey mentioned the possibility of thousands of deaths in Myanmar.
The military regime issued a call for blood donations.The shadow foreign minister of Myanmar stated that there could be more casualties in Mandalay near the epicenter of the earthquake.
“We are facing serious communication problems, limited access, and restricted internet,” said the minister. “The situation is severe, urgent international humanitarian and technical assistance is required,” they added.
The shadow minister confirmed at least 12 deaths so far in the earthquake in Myanmar.
They also mentioned deploying anti-regime rebels to provide humanitarian aid.A hospital in the capital was significantly damaged in Naypyidaw following the earthquake in central Myanmar.
The European Union announced readiness to provide support following the earthquake that struck Myanmar and Thailand.
France also declared readiness to provide support and mentioned that diplomatic buildings in Bangkok had been evacuated.The Myanmar Fire Services Department official told Reuters, “We have begun search operations and are moving around Yangon to check for casualties and damages. So far, we have no information in hand.”
The military regime declared a state of emergency in many regions of Myanmar.
A statement was made via the Telegram messaging app saying, “The government will swiftly investigate the situation and conduct search and rescue operations, in addition to providing humanitarian aid.”Following the powerful earthquake, the Thai Prime Minister held an emergency meeting.
Police and health officials reported that a 30-story skyscraper under construction collapsed in Bangkok, trapping 43 workers.
42 individuals were rescued, while one person lost their life.
In Bangkok, where over 17 million people reside, alarm systems were activated in high-rise buildings, leading citizens to evacuate from apartments and hotels into the streets.

Governor Chadchart Sittipunt mentioned that the exact number of damaged buildings was unknown, and evaluations were ongoing.
He advised people to be cautious.The Thai Civil Aviation Department reported that all flights in Bangkok were operating normally.
Geologist Prof. Dr. Okan Tüysüz commented on the earthquake to NTV. Tüysüz emphasized the necessity of planning for earthquakes and establishing gathering points.
