Italian Prime Minister Meloni has traveled to Washington to discuss the high customs duties announced by President Trump.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni arrived in Washington ahead of her planned meeting with US President Donald Trump on Thursday. After Trump’s announcement and suspension of imposing a 20% customs duty on European exports, Meloni will be the first European leader to meet face-to-face with the US President. Meloni is making this visit in her capacity as the Italian Prime Minister, but it was reported that she had been in close contact with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen before the trip.

Leader of Italy’s Brothers of Italy (Fratelli d’Italia) party, Meloni was the only EU leader invited to Trump’s presidential inauguration in January and she is showing a determined stance to continue relations with the Trump administration.
