Message to Ukrainian People in the US: “Leave the Country,” Sent by Mistake by Trump Administration

In the United States, the Trump administration accidentally sent out a notification to some Ukrainian immigrants who sought refuge in the country due to the Russia-Ukraine War, urging them to urgently leave the country.
According to reports in the US media, the Department of Homeland Security sent messages to some Ukrainians residing in the country with an “urgent” code yesterday and the day before. The message stated that the “temporary legal statuses” provided to Ukrainians due to the war in their country had been revoked, calling for them to “immediately” leave the US within 7 days. The message caused fear and panic among Ukrainian immigrants, but the Department of Homeland Security later clarified that the message was sent “mistakenly.” Department of Homeland Security spokesperson Tricia MacLaughlin stated in a written announcement, “The message sent to some Ukrainians was sent mistakenly. The conditional residence statuses have not been revoked. There is currently no need for them to take any action.”
TEMPORARY STATUSES EXPIRING IN OCTOBER 2026
During the administration of former President Joe Biden, the temporary legal status provided to Ukrainian immigrants accepted by the US under the “Ukraine for Unity program” starting after February 2022 due to the Russia-Ukraine War will expire in October 2026.
