Meta has announced the latest version of its experimental smart glasses developed to support advancements in technology, called Aria Gen 2. These glasses are intended to contribute to shaping the future computing platforms by being presented in academic and commercial research laboratories. Meta, increasing its investment in smart glasses in recent times, introduced its latest product, Aria Gen 2. Described as an enhanced version of its 2020 introduction Aria Gen 1, the company designed these glasses as a tool to assist in robotic systems, advanced sensors, and various technological studies. Aria Gen 2 is equipped with more advanced sensors than its predecessor, providing higher accuracy and data collection capacity. Thanks to custom-made chips by Meta, the glasses can perform complex calculations independently, offering researchers faster data processing capabilities. With the addition of a new sensor to Aria Gen 2, the device can now measure heart rate, representing a significant innovation in collecting and analyzing biometric data. One of the biggest advancements over the previous model is that the glasses can now be used for up to 24 hours on a single charge. In a blog post, Meta stated, “Presenting these glasses to academic and commercial research laboratories through Project Aria will help the public better understand important technologies that will shape the future of computing and artificial intelligence.” Meta, one of the leading companies in the technology sector, is striving to transform smart glasses into the next significant computing platform after phones. In addition to the Aria series used in research, the company also places considerable importance on the everyday use-friendly Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses. The Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses feature a voice AI assistant and can capture photos and videos. Furthermore, the prototype of the augmented reality glasses Orion, supported by artificial intelligence, was introduced in September.
