Meta’s New Vision: Humanoid Robots Supported by Artificial Intelligence

Meta is planning a significant investment in developing humanoid robots supported by artificial intelligence.

To realize this project, the company has formed a new team within the Reality Labs hardware division. This team will be responsible for improving the hardware of humanoid robots and will work on robots capable of performing household chores.

Meta’s goal is to develop the artificial intelligence, sensors, and software needed for the production and sale of robots. The new robotic group at Meta will be led by Marc Whitten, former CEO of the autonomous vehicle initiative Cruise. Whitten has previously worked at companies such as Amazon, Microsoft, and Sonos. Meta will not only focus on improving the hardware of humanoid robots but also work on robotic software and artificial intelligence.

According to Bloomberg’s report, the technology giant’s new initiative will complement the company’s existing investments in augmented reality and artificial intelligence. Meta executives believe that companies producing humanoid robots have made progress in hardware, but they think that Meta’s data from artificial intelligence and augmented reality devices could accelerate robotic development.

Rivaling Tesla, Optimus, an humanoid robot, is still being developed by Tesla. This robot, known for its ability to walk and move its hands, is equipped with advanced artificial intelligence used in Tesla’s autonomous vehicles. Optimus can also distinguish colored blocks, dance, and hold yoga poses. Elon Musk believes that Optimus will reach a level where it can perform daily tasks in homes and on the streets. According to industry leaks, Tesla aims to start limited production this year. It is estimated that Optimus could be priced at $30,000.

Experts believe that Meta’s investment in humanoid robots will significantly intensify competition in this field. It is emphasized that companies with a long history in robotic research can transition to production much faster with the services offered by Meta.
