Microsoft to Launch Handheld Console: Next-Gen Xbox on the Horizon

Microsoft is making significant hardware moves to reshape the future of the Xbox world. According to industry sources cited by Jez Corden, the company is focusing on two key projects to enhance the gaming ecosystem. The first project is a handheld console developed under the codename “Project Keenan.” The second project is a next-generation Xbox planned for release in 2027.

A NEW FACE OF GAMING EXPERIENCE ON XBOX: PROJECT KEENAN Microsoft aims to produce a handheld computer compatible with multiple platforms for gaming, rather than a handheld console with a unique operating system like the Nintendo Switch. Although it will be introduced under the Xbox brand, the device, not yet officially named, is currently being developed under the codename Keenan. According to industry leaks, Keenan will run on the Windows operating system and provide direct access for users to Microsoft services like the Microsoft Store and PC Game Pass. Microsoft also wants the device to integrate with third-party gaming platforms. Jez Corden, the first to report the news, claims that players will be able to play games purchased from Epic Games or Steam on Microsoft’s new handheld console.

Analysts believe that Microsoft developed this device not to sell games but to sell hardware and services. Many sources close to the company state that this handheld console will be released within 2025 and will directly compete with the Steam Deck.

“NEW GEN XBOX COMING IN TWO YEARS” According to reports, Microsoft continues to work on a new gaming console, expected to be released in 2027. The new generation console taking over from the Xbox Series S and X will offer superior graphic performance and processing power.

Microsoft aims for the device to be compatible with past-generation games when it hits the market in 2027. Additionally, one of the company’s goals is to further reduce the boundaries between Xbox and Windows platforms. This strategy could allow gamers to transition between various devices within a single ecosystem, offering a seamless gaming experience.

IMPACTS ON ECOSYSTEM AND COMPETITION Microsoft’s two major projects are seen not only as introducing new products but also as a strategic move for the overall gaming ecosystem. Both Project Keenan and the future generation Xbox console will provide tight integration among Xbox, Windows, and other related Microsoft services, delivering users a seamless and comprehensive gaming experience.

Considering the rapid technological advancements and competitive landscape in the gaming industry, Microsoft’s steps may provide a significant advantage over its competitors through innovative hardware and software integration. While Project Keenan strengthens mobile gaming experience, the 2027 next-gen Xbox aims to elevate the existing console experience. Both products highlight Microsoft’s vision of offering an integrated and innovative gaming experience across platforms.
