Minister Bayraktar: Production of oil in Gabar exceeded 80 thousand barrels

The Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar, stated that “Gabar has become Turkey’s oil hub. We are grateful to have now reached a daily production exceeding 80 thousand barrels. We have reached this production figure in 99 wells.” Minister Bayraktar, accompanied by 14 university students studying mining, petroleum, energy, and geology engineering faculties in Istanbul and Ankara, visited the area near the Şehit Aybüke Yalçın (ŞAY) Bülent Sadioğlu-8 Field in the Koca Yusuf Tower in Gabar Mountain in Şırnak. Bayraktar received a briefing from Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) General Manager Ahmet Türkoğlu and TPAO Şırnak Regional Manager Mehmet Oğuz Şahin before conducting an on-site inspection. Bayraktar stated to the press that they were at a new production location in the Bülent Sadioğlu field, one of Gabar’s new fields, as they approached the end of the Ramadan month. Describing the tower as a prime example of the national energy and mining policy’s most critical placement goal, Bayraktar continued, “We are conducting drilling operations in this field, in this location, with a very strong tower we call Koca Yusuf. The Gabar discovery is a very significant project, a very important oil discovery that has been closely followed with great excitement by our nation since September 2021, the largest oil discovery in the history of the Republic. We have now thankfully reached a daily production exceeding 80 thousand barrels here. We have reached this production figure in 99 wells. We are also producing very high-quality oil in these fields. The Gabar field currently represents an economic size, a gain of approximately 2.3 billion dollars annually for us.” Bayraktar mentioned that this region had always been associated with terrorism in the past but now they are proceeding with the goal of a terrorism-free Turkey. Emphasizing that as they liberate this region from terrorism, their work accelerates, and they begin to reap the results, Bayraktar pointed out the high potential of Gabar. Bayraktar noted: “We believe that we will hopefully increase these 80 thousand barrels. On the last Teachers’ Day on November 24, we organized a program in memory of our martyr teacher Aybüke Yalçın. That day, our production was 57 thousand barrels. Today we have reached 80 thousand barrels. We are continuing to develop these fields. We believe that Gabar has become Turkey’s oil hub. Hopefully, it will continue to grow. We have over 3,200 employees working in these mountains today.”
