Minister Fidan Discusses Syria with French Counterpart

Minister Fidan met with his French counterpart Barrot ahead of the NATO summit.

Today, Minister Fidan will attend the NATO Foreign Ministers meeting in Brussels, Belgium. He will present Turkey’s contributions to European-Atlantic security.

Increasing defense spending will also be discussed at the summit.

Ministers will also discuss topics such as the Russia-Ukraine War and European security.

“We Oppose Forced Migration of Palestinians”

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot in Paris, France.

According to diplomatic sources, Fidan and Barrot focused on the Ukraine War, European security, regional developments, and bilateral relations.

During the meeting with Barrot, Fidan highlighted Turkey’s opposition to the forced migration of the Palestinian people from their homeland due to Israel’s increasing attacks, pointing out that they support the Gaza Plan accepted by the Arab League.

Fidan also emphasized the importance of increasing coordination with non-EU member countries in shaping the new security architecture of Europe.

UKRAINE WAR AND SYRIA

During the meeting where the updating of the Customs Union was discussed, Minister Fidan expressed Turkey’s support for diplomatic efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war.

Fidan stressed the importance of all allies working closely together in this process and emphasized that both sides’ consent is necessary for a possible solution to be permanent.

He highlighted the significance of increasing engagement with the new administration in Syria and emphasized the importance of lifting sanctions completely in efforts to establish stability and peace in the country.

Fidan also conveyed expectations regarding defense industry cooperation.

He underscored the importance of combating the terrorist organizations PKK/YPG and emphasized the need for foreign terrorist fighters of the terrorist organization ISIS in prisons and camps in northern Syria to return to their countries.
