Minister of Culture and Tourism Ersoy: Initial data very positive, target is 65 million visitors

Minister of Culture and Tourism Ersoy stated that early booking data is very positive. Ersoy announced that they are aiming for 65 million visitors and 64 billion dollars in revenue by 2025. Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy disclosed the recent developments in the tourism sector and the objectives for 2025. Speaking at the ITB Berlin, one of the most important gatherings in world tourism, Minister Ersoy mentioned that the goal for 2025 is 65 million visitors and 64 billion dollars in revenue. Ersoy also stated that the per capita nightly income increased from $83 in 2017 to $108 in 2024, representing a 31% growth. Providing insights on tourist source markets, Minister Ersoy noted that in 2024, 6.7 million visitors came from Russia, 6.6 million from Germany, and 4.4 million from the UK. Ersoy expressed that early booking data from Germany and Russia is quite strong, with expectations of over 7 million visitors in both markets by the end of 2025. Minister Ersoy mentioned that it is predicted the number of visitors from the UK will reach 4.8 million by 2025. Emphasizing the promotion of gastronomy, cultural heritage, and alternative tourism products to spread tourism throughout the year and to all 81 provinces of Turkey, Ersoy stated that projects like archaeological excavations and night museums are receiving great interest. Ersoy declared, “We aim to complete a project in the next 4 years equivalent to the excavation work done in the last 60 years.” Minister Ersoy also commented on developments in distant markets such as the US and China, noting over a 60% growth in the Chinese market last year and a 20% growth in the US market. Ersoy added that in line with the goal of 100 million visitors and 100 billion dollars in revenue in the future, it is necessary to increase air travel capacity.
