Minister Şimşek Foresees Rapid Improvement in Inflation Expectations

Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek stated that the market expectation is in line with the inflation target. Şimşek said, “We anticipate that inflation expectations will improve rapidly.” Evaluating sectoral inflation expectations, Minister Şimşek shared the following statement on his social media account: “What matters in pricing behavior is the inflation expectation of the real sector, which decreased by 14 points compared to May of last year, reaching 41.9% with a 1.9-point monthly improvement for 12 months ahead. Especially, household expectations, which are more affected by past inflation, increased slightly in February. While the market expectation is in line with our inflation target, we anticipate that the high real sector and household expectations will rapidly improve with the continuation of the decline in inflation.”
