Motorcycle Tax Brake: Sales Declined by Half

At the beginning of the year, additional customs duties were imposed on motorcycles, leading to price hikes. As a result, motorcycle sales dropped by half in the first two months. After five years of record-breaking motorcycle sales, there was a slowdown this year. Extra customs duties were imposed on motorcycle imports from non-European Union markets at the beginning of the year. The tax rate was increased from 20% to 30%. In addition, the scope of monitoring tax was expanded. As a result of these regulations, motorcycle prices saw increases of up to 200%, impacting sales. According to the Economim Newspaper, sales shrank by 50% in the first two months, reaching 72,000 units. Motorcycle sales had surpassed car sales in July 2023. Since then, motorcycles had always been in the lead. However, with the decline in sales, motorcycles dropped back to second place. In 2024, motorcycle sales had exceeded 1 million units for the first time.
