Mysterious Red Paintings in the UK: Concerns Raised by “Brothel” Writings

Concerns have been raised by the appearance of red paint writings saying “brothel” on the front facades of houses in many cities across the UK, especially in London. The source and reason behind the incidents are unknown, prompting the police to initiate an investigation.

This week, mysterious red paintings appearing on the front facades of houses in Walthamstow, northeast London, sparked debates. Not only in Walthamstow, but also in other neighborhoods of Huddersfield, Bradford, Reading, and London, red paint splattered on the front doors of houses was accompanied by the word “brothel” and some numbers. The incidents led to extensive discussions among neighborhood residents and on social media. Local residents came up with various theories ranging from gang-related activities to allegations associated with the war in Gaza. A couple living on Cazenove Road in Walthamstow stated that their house’s front surface was splattered with red paint and they received a letter, but found no evidence. The couple said, “It’s really very sad. We also don’t know why our house was painted.”

POLICE INITIATE INVESTIGATION
The police have launched an investigation to determine if there is any connection between the incidents and similar incidents outside London. However, no arrests have been made so far. Walthamstow MP Stella Creasy expressed her concerns over the lack of central coordination in investigating such incidents nationwide. Similar events have occurred in different cities like Reading, Bradford, and Huddersfield. In Reading, a building’s side facade was painted with red and black paint saying “brothel,” while in Bradford, attacks on apartment blocks were accompanied by the word “brothel” written on the walls. In Huddersfield, red paint was splattered on a building’s wall with the expression “brothel 3.” Local residents are fearful of these incidents, wondering about the motives behind them and who the culprits might be.
