National Security Investigation on Drug and Semiconductor Imports Initiated in the US

The US administration has initiated two separate investigations to examine the impact of imported drugs and semiconductors, as well as semiconductor production equipment, on national security. According to the announcement made by the US Department of Commerce, the investigation on imported drugs covers finished pharmaceuticals, medical countermeasures, active pharmaceutical ingredients, key starting materials, and derivatives of these products. The investigation on semiconductors aims to determine the impact of importing semiconductors, semiconductor production equipment, and related derivative products on national security. Public opinions are being sought under both investigations, with a request for information on the impact of these products’ imports on the US domestic production capacity, workforce expertise, and supply chains. A 21-day period is provided for the submission of public opinions on the matter.
