NATO Secretary General Rutte: Zelenskiy Needs to Improve Relations with Trump

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy needs to find a way to improve his relationship with US President Donald Trump. In an interview with the BBC, Rutte mentioned that he spoke with Zelenskiy twice over the phone following the tension at the White House between Trump and Zelenskiy. Rutte also stated that he had a phone conversation with President Trump, refusing to disclose the content of the discussions but mentioning that he told Zelenskiy that Trump’s efforts for Ukraine should be respected. Rutte emphasized the need to give credit to President Trump. “FOR A LASTING PEACE, THE US, UKRAINE, AND EUROPE SHOULD ACT TOGETHER” Mark Rutte described yesterday’s dispute between Trump and Zelenskiy as unfortunate, stressing the importance of repairing their relationship. Rutte added, “It is important for Zelenskiy to find a way to re-establish his relations with the US President and the senior American leadership team.” Rutte mentioned discussing this matter during phone calls with Zelenskiy and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The NATO Secretary General said, “I have spoken with Zelenskiy twice over the phone. I told him: for Ukraine to achieve lasting peace, the US, Ukraine, and Europe should act together.” Rutte also recalled that during Trump’s first leadership term from 2017 to 2020, the US approved the sale of the Javelin anti-tank missile system, which helped Ukraine in its response to Russia.
