Natural Gas Consumption in Residential Buildings Increased by 35%

The consumption of natural gas in residential buildings increased by 35% last December, reaching a total of 3 billion 71 million 450 thousand cubic meters. According to the “Natural Gas Market Sector Report” of the Energy Market Regulatory Authority for December of last year, 4 billion 424 million 710 thousand cubic meters of the total imports were made through pipelines, while 2 billion 939 million 460 thousand cubic meters were imported via liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities. The total natural gas import reached 7 billion 364 million 170 thousand cubic meters in December compared to the same month of the previous year, showing a growth rate of 21.5%. The majority of natural gas imports in December, totaling 2 billion 835 million 170 thousand cubic meters, were from Russia. Azerbaijan followed with 1 billion 37 million 370 thousand cubic meters, and Iran with 552 million 170 thousand cubic meters. During this period, imports of LNG were made from the U.S. (2 billion 5 million 570 thousand cubic meters), Algeria (346 thousand 880 cubic meters), Equatorial Guinea (207 thousand 740 cubic meters), Russia (198 thousand 210 cubic meters), Nigeria (94 million 740 thousand cubic meters), and Norway (86 thousand 320 cubic meters). The total natural gas consumption in the country in December 2024 increased by 32% annually, reaching 6 billion 963 million 420 thousand cubic meters. The natural gas consumption in the industrial sector was recorded as 1 billion 263 million 610 thousand cubic meters, showing a 4.5% increase. Natural gas consumption in power plants increased by 87.85%, reaching 1 billion 393 million 500 thousand cubic meters. The consumption of natural gas in residential buildings increased by 35% last December, totaling 3 billion 71 million 450 thousand cubic meters. Turkey’s natural gas stock decreased by 9% in December compared to the same month of the previous year, totaling approximately 4 billion 950 million 860 thousand cubic meters. Approximately 4 billion 535 million 470 thousand cubic meters of the natural gas stock is stored in underground storage facilities, while 415 million 390 thousand cubic meters are stored in LNG terminals.
