Netanyahu Demanded Bombing Everything in Gaza After October 7: Destroy Houses, Bomb with Everything You Have

According to the Israeli media, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his desire for “bombing everything in Gaza” in a security cabinet meeting a few days after October 7. Dissatisfied with the attack targeting 1,500 locations, Netanyahu reprimanded the former Chief of General Staff with the words, “Destroy houses, bomb with everything you have.” An analysis published in the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reported that Netanyahu criticized former Chief of General Staff Herzi Halevi for stating that they had attacked 1,500 targets in the first 48 hours in Gaza by questioning, “Why not 5,000?” Despite the significant intelligence and power required to target 1,500 sites, the analysis conveyed that the Israeli Prime Minister began yelling and slamming the table in anger. When Halevi responded that there were no approved 5,000 targets, Netanyahu replied, “I’m not concerned with targets. Destroy houses, bomb with everything you have.” The analysis highlighted that Netanyahu faced a major setback in the early days of the war, with Israeli officers acknowledging that he had lost his judgment. It was speculated that Netanyahu avoided initiating a comprehensive state investigation into the October 7 attacks for this reason. While the army practically managed the attacks, Netanyahu took credit for all successful moves while avoiding responsibility for any unsuccessful ones. Post the Israeli invasion of Gaza, Hamas’ armed wing, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, launched a comprehensive attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, in response to continuous violations against Palestinians, particularly targeting sacred values like the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Israel reported that 1,200 Israelis died and 5,132 were injured in the October 7 attacks. Since October 7, Israel’s attacks on the Gaza Strip have resulted in approximately 49,617 Palestinians dead and 112,950 injured. It was reported that thousands remained dead under the rubble, with civilian infrastructure being destroyed, including hospitals and educational institutions where people took shelter. The Israeli army announced that since the beginning of the attacks on the Gaza Strip on October 7, 840 soldiers had died, including 400 during ground invasion. Following a four-day “humanitarian pause” on November 24, 2023, and another three-day extension, 81 Israelis and 240 Palestinians were released. The ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement that took effect on January 19, 2025, led to the release of over 1,700 Palestinian prisoners from Israeli jails, while 33 Israeli prisoners, 25 alive and 8 deceased, were handed over in Gaza. However, Israel violated the ceasefire on March 18 by launching a new intense attack on the Gaza Strip.
