Netanyahu Signals Israel’s Occupation in Syria Will Be Permanent

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu conveyed the message that Israel’s occupation in southern Syria will be permanent. Speaking at a military graduation ceremony, Netanyahu emphasized their demand for the complete removal of military presence in southern Syria. He stated, “We will not allow the new regime forces to enter the southern region of Damascus. We demand that southern Syria be entirely devoid of military presence.” Netanyahu also mentioned the significant blows they have dealt to Iran, aiming to hinder their nuclear weapon ambitions.

Touching on the ceasefire and prisoner swap agreement between Hamas and Israel in Gaza, Netanyahu claimed they are committed to the goals of the war and ensuring the return of all prisoners. He credited U.S. President Donald Trump’s statements for leading to the early release of prisoners and expressed gratitude for the weapons sent to Israel, including high-tonnage bombs. During his speech, he displayed a photo of the Bibas family, Israeli prisoners bodies handed over by Hamas, which led to protesters questioning why they were not rescued.

Netanyahu also discussed the attacks on the occupied West Bank, mentioning the first tank shipment to the region in years. Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz, speaking at the same event, conveyed the message that they would expand and intensify their attacks on the occupied West Bank.
