New Car Sales Decline in the EU

In the European Union market, new car sales decreased by 3.4% in February compared to the same month last year, dropping to 853,670. The European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) released the new car registration data for the EU countries in February. Accordingly, new car sales in EU countries last month decreased by 3.4% to 853,670 compared to the same month in 2024. Of the new cars sold in member countries, 35.6% were hybrid, 28.6% were petrol, 15.4% were electric, 9.4% were diesel, 7.4% were plug-in hybrids, and 3.5% were identified as other fuel types. Electric car sales in February increased by 23.7% compared to the same period last year, reaching 131,275. Additionally, the combined share of fully electric, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid models in total sales reached 58.4%. New car sales in February declined by 6.4% in Germany, 6.2% in Italy, and 0.7% in France, while Spain saw an 11% increase. In the January-February period, total sales decreased by 3% to 1,685,640 compared to the same period last year. According to automotive manufacturers, the Volkswagen Group achieved the highest new car sales in the EU in February with 232,169 vehicles. The Stellantis Group followed Volkswagen Group. Stellantis Group, which includes brands such as Peugeot, Fiat, Citroen, and Opel, sold 144,205 cars. Renault Group ranked third with 102,068 new cars, while Toyota Group came fourth with 65,688.
