New Regulations for Foreign-Plated Vehicles

A new regulation regarding foreign-plated vehicles is being introduced. With this regulation, foreign-plated vehicles arriving in Turkey will not be allowed to leave the country without paying outstanding fees and fines incurred for passing through toll roads operated by private companies. Members of the AK Party are preparing to present a new bill to parliament. The aim of the bill is to prevent foreign-plated vehicles from crossing the border without paying toll fees for toll roads operated by private companies. It was determined that foreign-plated vehicles were leaving Turkey without paying toll fees after using toll roads operated by private companies due to lack of a legal regulation. It was found that the practice of allowing them to leave the country without settling their debt was being abused. Following an increase in the number of foreign-plated vehicles crossing toll roads without payment, a proposal was submitted to the Turkish Grand National Assembly to amend the 30th article of the Highways Transport Law. This would introduce a similar practice to prevent foreign-plated vehicles operated by private companies from leaving the country without paying toll fees after passing through highways operated by the General Directorate of Highways. Fines and toll fees will be collected at customs if they are not paid, preventing foreign-plated vehicles from leaving the country. These outstanding amounts can be collected by authorized officials at customs without the need for notification. 60% of the collected amount will be recorded as service fee in the general budget, while the remaining 40% will be transferred to the relevant operator by the end of the following month.
