New rules for X’s parody accounts

Social media platform X has introduced new rules for parody accounts. According to these rules, parody accounts will be required to use images different from X accounts they intend to represent.

The social media platform owned by the world’s richest person, Elon Musk, is introducing new rules for parody accounts.

With the new rules, starting from April 10th, accounts that mimic another user or person will be required to use key words like “fake” or “parody” in their account names. Additionally, parody account owners will be mandated to use images different from X accounts they aim to represent.

AIMING TO REDUCE FRAUD RISK

The company’s statement mentioned, “These changes are made to help users better understand accounts independent of Parody, Commentary, and Fan (PCF) accounts, in order to reduce confusion or fraud risk.”

The announcement warned that profiles of the aforementioned accounts need to be updated by April 10th, and the changes will also affect fan and commentary accounts.

AN ABUNDANCE OF ACCOUNTS IMITATING ELON MUSK

Many users have complained about the confusion caused by the numerous parody accounts imitating Elon Musk, the owner of X.

A Musk parody account with over a million followers recently asked users to “like and comment” for a chance to win a Tesla, receiving 428 thousand likes and over 200 thousand comments on the post.

X had initially introduced rules requiring users who mimic for entertainment purposes to label themselves as such with “tags” for parody accounts back in January.
