Nonfarm Employment in the US Falls Below Expectations

Nonfarm employment in the US fell short of expectations in January, with an increase of 143,000 jobs. The unemployment rate in the country dropped from 4.1% to 4%. Average hourly earnings also increased by 0.5%, exceeding predictions.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the employment data for November was revised to an increase of 49,000 to 261,000, and December data was revised to an increase of 51,000 to 307,000.
The unemployment rate in the country dropped to 4%. Expectations were for the unemployment rate to remain at 4.1%. The number of unemployed people decreased by 37,000 to 6.489 million.
Average hourly earnings increased to $35.87 in January, with a 0.5% increase. Hourly earnings exceeded expectations, which were at 0.3%.
