US officials have announced that they will reward $10 million to anyone providing information that leads to the arrest of the Olympic athlete. Former Olympian Ryan Wedding is wanted for his involvement in a billion-dollar international drug trafficking operation and numerous murders. US officials have announced a $10 million reward for information leading to the arrest of the Canadian former Olympic snowboard athlete. The Los Angeles police stated that Ryan Wedding, also known as “El Jefe,” “The Boss,” and “Public Enemy,” is wanted for his role in drug trafficking and many murders.
Assistant Chief Alan Hamilton of the Los Angeles Police Department stated to the press, “The increase in the reward clearly indicates that there is no safe place for Wedding to hide.” It is estimated that Wedding, who is said to be one of the top 10 most wanted fugitives in the US, is hiding in Mexico under the protection of the Sinaloa drug cartel.
Of the 16 suspects being sought by the police, only Wedding and one other person are fugitives. The 43-year-old athlete, who grew up in Ontario, competed for Team Canada at the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics, finishing 24th in the parallel giant slalom event. Wedding was found guilty of drug trafficking and sentenced to four years in prison after attempting to purchase cocaine from a US government agent in 2010.
The Los Angeles police allege that Wedding transported “five metric tons of fentanyl per month” to cities in the US and Canada.
