Operation against toppled regime elements in Latakia: 11 security forces killed, regime’s intelligence chief captured

The ongoing operation by the Syrian army in Latakia province against elements of the toppled Bashar al-Assad regime continues. At least 11 security forces from the Syrian Army lost their lives in the clashes. It was announced that Ibrahim Huveyce, the former air intelligence chief of the regime during Hafez al-Assad’s era, was captured. Curfews were declared in Tarsus and Homs during the night hours. The official Syrian news agency SANA reported that elements of the toppled regime attacked security forces in the Beit Ana village of Latakia and that one security officer lost his life in the attack. The report mentioned that an ambulance moving towards the scene to transport the dead and wounded to the hospital was targeted by the toppled regime elements. It was reported that security forces sent reinforcements to the village and clashes with these elements took place in the region. The death toll has exceeded 10. According to information from local sources, at least 10 security forces lost their lives in the ongoing clashes near the Hmeimim Airport in Jableh district and the Naval Academy. As a result, a total of at least 11 security forces from the Syrian Army lost their lives in the clashes throughout the day. Reinforcements, including armored vehicles, were dispatched to the conflict areas. Hundreds of people gathered in squares in Idlib, Homs, Latakia, Aleppo provinces, and Jableh to protest the attack by elements of the toppled regime. CURFEW IN TARSUS AND HOMS The Director of the General Security Administration in Latakia, Mustafa Kuneyfati, stated to SANA, “Elements of the toppled regime carried out planned attacks on the general security forces’ road checkpoints. Public institutions were destroyed.” Kuneyfati announced that forces were mobilized, the attack in rural Jableh was repelled, and clashes continued in the town center. On the other hand, a curfew was imposed in Tartus province from 22.00 to 10.00, and in Homs province from 22.00 to 08.00. Gayyas Delle, known as one of the groups that set ambushes for security forces and identifying himself as the commander of the toppled regime’s Gay Power, announced that they had established a military council to overthrow the current administration. The village of Beit Ana, connected to Jableh, is also known as the hometown of Suheyl al-Hasan, the commander of the 24th Division known as the “Tiger Forces,” and notorious for the massacres he committed. FORMER INTELLIGENCE CHIEF OF THE OVERTHROWN BA’ATH REGIME ARRESTED According to a breaking news report by SANA, security forces captured Major General Ibrahim Huweyc, the former Air Intelligence Chief held responsible for the deaths of hundreds, including the Druze leader from Lebanon, Kamal Jumblatt, during Hafez al-Assad’s era. The Syrian army had launched an operation against toppled regime elements in Latakia and Deraa provinces in the last 2 days who refused to surrender their weapons.
