Passenger Rights Digitized in Air Travel

The Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, announced that the application process for passenger rights in air travel has been completely digitized.

Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu revealed a new service introduced in aviation. Minister Uraloğlu expressed that with the Passenger Rights Module integrated into the KDM-ERP system, passenger complaints and requests will be managed from a single point and completely digitally. Bringing together airlines, citizens, and the SHGM in a digital environment, Minister Uraloğlu stated, “Passengers will no longer have to convey their requests first to the airline and then to the administration. They can initiate the process with just one click.” He added, “SHGM WILL BE DIRECTLY INVOLVED IN THE PROCESS” Uraloğlu mentioned that applications made through the KDM-ERP system will first be evaluated by the airline, and in cases where the passenger and the airline cannot reach an agreement, SHGM will be involved directly in the process.

Uraloğlu emphasized that within the system, application processes will gain speed and applications will be finalized much faster. He stated, “The era of physical documents and emails has ended. Passengers will conduct all requests and complaints solely online through the KDM-ERP system.” He further indicated that no area in aviation will be left unmonitored with the KDM-ERP system, and a centralized process management structure will be established across the entire aviation sector.

Referring to the expected number of 1 million applications per year in 2024, Uraloğlu reminded that the number of passenger applications reaching the SHGM was around 18,000. He said, “With the new system, we expect this number to reach up to 1 million because applications directly to the airline will also be managed through this platform. The inclusivity of the system is much broader.” Uraloğlu highlighted, “WE HAVE SET AN EXAMPLE WITH A PIONEERING MODEL” While acknowledging the presence of similar online application systems in European Union countries, Uraloğlu pointed out that the structure established by Turkey is more comprehensive. He stated, “By bringing passengers, airlines, and administrations together in a single system, we have set an example of pioneering digitization in passenger rights.”
