Payment of 1.52 Trillion Lira Made with Cards

In February, the total amount of payments made with credit cards, debit cards, and prepaid cards increased by 50% compared to the same month last year, reaching 1.5228 trillion lira.

The Interbank Card Center (BKM) has released data for February. Accordingly, as of February, the number of credit cards in Turkey reached 131.2 million, debit cards 196.9 million, and prepaid cards 114.5 million. These figures show an increase of 9% in credit cards, 3% in debit cards, and 25% in prepaid cards compared to the same period last year. The total number of cards in February reached 442.6 million, showing a 10% increase over the same month last year. The total payment made with credit cards, debit cards, and prepaid cards in February also increased by 50% compared to the same period last year, reaching 1.5228 trillion lira. Of these card payments, 1.2882 trillion lira was made with credit cards, 203.6 billion lira with debit cards, and 31 billion lira with prepaid cards. The growth rate in payments made with credit cards was 53%, 35% with debit cards, and 63% with prepaid cards compared to the same period last year.

Out of 5 card payments, 4 were contactless. In February, the total number of payments made with credit cards, debit cards, and prepaid cards increased by 5% compared to the same period last year, reaching 1.43 billion. Of these payments, 821.6 million were made with credit cards, 494 million with debit cards, and 113.5 million with prepaid cards. The growth rate in the number of payments made with credit cards was 8%, with debit cards 1%, and with prepaid cards 6% compared to the same period last year. Card payments made online increased by 51% compared to the same period last year, reaching 443.9 billion lira. The share of online card payments in the total amount reached 29%. The number of online card payments increased by 2% compared to the same period last year, reaching 208 million, representing 15% of total payments. The number of contactless card payments increased by 10% compared to the same period last year, reaching 938.9 million. The amount of contactless payments also increased by 66% compared to the same period last year, reaching 482 billion lira. In February, 4 out of every 5 in-store card payments were contactless.
