Payment of Overtime Fees Exceeding 120 Hours to Resident Doctors

The Public Ombudsman Institution has decided to pay resident doctors for overtime fees exceeding 120 hours at a university hospital. The Public Ombudsman Institution (POI) ensured the payment of overtime fees exceeding 120 hours to resident doctors at Inonu University Turgut Ozal Medical Center. A resident doctor working at Inonu University Turgut Ozal Medical Center stated that he had worked more than 120 hours of overtime in May and June 2024, and requested the hospital management to pay the outstanding amount, but received no response. Subsequently, the doctor who applied to the POI stated that the provision of the law prohibiting payment for overtime exceeding 120 hours during emergency shifts had been annulled by the Constitutional Court, and requested payment of the remaining amount with interest. The POI, after evaluating the application, held discussions with Inonu University Rectorate to meet the request. The Rectorate informed that the overtime exceeding 120 hours and those coinciding with public holidays would be calculated and paid. In the response letter sent to the POI, the Rectorate used the following statements: “In order to resolve the complaint in an amicable manner, our institution will calculate and pay the overtime fees exceeding 120 hours and those coinciding with religious and public holidays with a 25% increment for the mentioned specialist student.”
