Pentagon: DOGE Could Lay off Thousands of Employees

The Department of Efficiency (DOGE), led by Elon Musk in the US, is reportedly planning to start layoffs at the Department of Defense. According to a report in the leading US newspaper, The Washington Post, thousands of employees could be let go following a visit from DOGE officials to the Pentagon. It has been instructed for Pentagon agencies to provide lists of employees, including those who have not completed their probationary periods. With a budget of over $840 billion, the Department of Defense is the largest federal agency in the US, employing around 950 thousand civilian workers in various fields. In addition, another cost-cutting measure has been announced regarding the free distribution of COVID tests. The Washington administration is preparing to end the free COVID test distribution program and destroy the remaining millions of tests.
