Photos capturing the essence of the first day of the Russia-Ukraine War: The conflict that changed the world’s balance enters its 4th year

The fourth year of the Russia-Ukraine War is commencing, as Russia’s “special military operation,” as termed, has disrupted the balance of power worldwide.
The American Associated Press news agency has reminded us of the war’s first day with photographs. The Russia-Ukraine war will mark three years behind it on Monday. Images from the first day of the war that turned the world upside down were reshared by the Associated Press news agency. The report mentioned: “The deafening roar of the first airstrikes. Buildings erupting in flames and turning into rubble. Terrified individuals hiding in basements. Cries of despair and comforting embraces. This was the reality of February 24, 2022, the first day of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.”
The news also stated: “Ukraine changed forever from the first morning explosions of that fateful day. As darkness fell, Ukrainians were counting their first dead and finding themselves under Russian occupation in many parts of the country. Others rushed onto overcrowded trains to escape the advancing Russian forces.”
The report continued mentioning: “Uncertainty and fear hung in the air. No one knew if Ukraine could withstand the assault of a much larger and well-equipped Russian army. Three years later, the constant fear remains as relentless as on the first day.”
The largest armed conflict in Europe since World War II has claimed the lives of tens of thousands on both sides. Thousands of civilians have been killed in the clashes. Millions of Ukrainians have fled their country, and many have no prospect of returning. Countless families have been torn apart, forced to bury their loved ones, with their homes and livelihoods shattered. One-fifth of Ukraine is under Russian occupation, with no sign that Kiev will be able to regain control of these regions.
