Following the call of the PKK’s leader Abdullah Ocalan, the declaration of a ceasefire by the terrorist organization PKK has made it to the headlines of the world press.
Based in the UK, Reuters news agency was the first to report the announcement.
Reuters wrote the following in their report:
“According to a news agency close to the group, illegal Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militants will heed the disarmament call of their imprisoned leader Abdullah Ocalan and immediately declare a ceasefire, taking an important step towards ending the 40-year conflict with the Turkish state.”The France-based AFP news agency was one of the first agencies to publish the announcement of the terrorist organization.
In their report, AFP stated, “Illegal Kurdish militants have declared a ceasefire with Turkey following a significant call by imprisoned PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan to dismantle the organization.”
Further details in the report included: “In a statement relayed by the PKK-affiliated ANF news agency, the PKK Executive Committee, referring to Ocalan, stated, ‘As of today, we declare a ceasefire.'”The American Associated Press (AP) news agency also covered Kandil’s statement on their website.
The report mentioned that two days after the call made by the terrorist organization leader Ocalan, a ceasefire was declared.
It was stated in the report, “The group declared a ceasefire, referring to Abdullah Ocalan, who has been detained by Turkey since 1999.”Kandil’s statement also caught the attention of the Arab press.
Qatar-based Al Jazeera used the headline “PKK declares ceasefire in conflicts lasting for 40 years with Turkey.”
The report mentioned, “The Kurdish group called for the release of imprisoned leader Abdullah Ocalan, who has been almost entirely isolated since 1999, from Ankara.”French media announced the ceasefire by saying “The Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) declared a ceasefire with Turkey on Saturday, putting an end to over 40 years of ongoing bloodshed.”
On the website of France 24 television, the call made by Ocalan to the terrorist organization PKK for dissolution was highlighted as the main headline.Greece’s prominent newspaper, Kathimerini, also covered the declaration on its website.
In a report titled “PKK declares ceasefire with Turkey,” it was mentioned, “The PKK also hoped for the release of Ocalan, who has been almost completely isolated by Ankara since 1999.”
