Positive start on the first day of the week in the Stock Exchange

Accelerated purchases marked the first trading day of the week in the stock market. The BIST 100 index gained over 2% during the first half of the day.
In Borsa Istanbul, the BIST 100 index rose by 2.18% during the first half of the day, reaching 9,241.66 points. Showing an upward trend in the morning, the BIST 100 index climbed to 9,241.66 points by 13:00, up by 197.02 points and 2.18% compared to the previous close. The total trading volume reached 76.3 billion Turkish Lira. The banking index gained 2.56%, while the holding index increased by 2.24%.
Among the sector indices, transportation led with a 5.1% gain, while the financial leasing factoring sector experienced the most decline with 0.43%.
Last week, the BIST 100 index tested the 9,000 points mark with a drop of over 15%. SHORT SELLING PROHIBITED Due to possible market volatility, some measures were implemented yesterday. Short selling was prohibited for a month in Borsa Istanbul, and decisions facilitating share buybacks were announced. The Order to Trade Ratio (OTR) in the equity market was reduced from 5:1 to 3:1 between March 24, 2025, and April 25, 2025 (until the end of the session). The threshold value for the order to trade ratio was increased from 0.25 TL to 0.50 TL as of March 24, 2025. This implementation aims to narrow down algorithmic trading activities.
