Price pressure in tourism: Has Turkey become expensive?

Tourism professionals are stating that Turkey has become more expensive compared to competitive countries this year. Sector officials believe that the recent increase in the euro exchange rate will strengthen their position. Facing price pressure, tourism professionals gathered to discuss the current situation in the sector. The Professional Hotel Managers Association (POYD) organized a meeting to address current issues. POYD President Hakan Saatçioğlu mentioned, “Unfortunately, we have become expensive due to exchange rate pressure from abroad. With the increase in exchange rates, we will have some margin for action.” According to industry representatives, Turkey has become expensive in comparison to countries it competes with in tourism. Prices have surpassed those of countries like Egypt and Tunisia significantly, even surpassing countries like Spain, Italy, and Greece. Saatçioğlu stated, “The rise in the exchange rate will strengthen our hand. Since economic difficulties are not limited to Turkey but are global, every customer looking to go on vacation wants to receive the best service at the best price.” The new tourism season is expected to commence in May.
