Putin-Trump Meeting | Russia: We Will Talk about Peace with the U.S.

Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitriy Peskov stated that the phone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump is a strong signal for dialogue, saying, “We will now talk about peace, not war.” Peskov, in an interview with the “Rossiya-1” television channel, made statements regarding the relationship between Russia and the U.S. and the resolution of the Ukraine crisis. Evaluating the phone call made by Putin and Trump last week, Peskov said, “This is a strong signal that we will try to solve problems through dialogue. We will talk about peace, not war.” He highlighted the lack of dialogue with the previous U.S. administration and expressed appreciation for Trump’s approach towards resolving issues through dialogue. Peskov mentioned that a face-to-face meeting between Putin and Trump requires special preparation and stated that they would be pleased with the participation of any head of state, including Trump, in the events commemorating the 80th anniversary of the defeat of Nazi Germany by the Soviet Union during World War II on Victory Day, May 9th. Peskov emphasized that Trump is welcome to visit Russia at any time. Referring to the pre-war Ukrainian issue, Peskov recalled that they were trying to resolve it with the Minsk agreements, saying, “If those agreements were implemented, Ukraine would be whole.” Peskov noted that the West deceived Russia, and they will consider the experience gained from those agreements in their relations with the West, taking into account that Kiev does not act independently.
